Dermot O'Brien is the executive vice president of Human Resources and Corporate Services at TIAA-CREF. Dermot joined TIAA-CREF in 2003 as part of a new executive management team that embarked upon a widespread business and cultural transformation and assumed responsibility for all human resource-related strategy and execution. Since then, he has taken on additional responsibilities including oversight of Corporate Services, which encompasses Administrative Services, Corporate Real Estate, Facilities and Security.
Dermot has spent his entire career in financial services human resources, working on both the institutional and retail sides. Prior to joining TIAA-CREF, at Merrill Lynch & Co. he filled several senior positions, including head of HR for Global Debt Markets and as first vice president and head of human resources in the international private client division. Dermot started out his human resources career at Morgan Stanley, where he worked for 10 years based alternately in New York, Hong Kong and Tokyo, where he headed HR for Japan.
A native of Dublin, Ireland, Dermot holds an undergraduate degree in finance from Pace University.
